Be Real caused an upset in the Puppy Derby Final at Peterborough, by winning the £5000 contest, after going off at 7/1.

The Dave Mullins-trained runner broke well, and managed to stretch his advantage in the early stages with the help of some trouble behind in the pack.

Glenadda Magic did close to gap as he chased Be Real for second place, but there were four lengths between the pair, as they crossed the line in the feature race of the evening.

In the Marathon at 9.45, the favourite in the greyhound odds, Ayamzagirl, justified her price with a three-length victory, with a time of 51.29sec in the 790-metre trip. She did leave it late though to hit the front, finding the lead at the final bend.

Over the shorter trip of 605 metres, Elaine Parker’s Skywalker Louie made every yard of the running, when coming home as the 3/1 winner.

In the sprint race round just two bends, Air Force Solo clocked a time of 14.35sec, to win from Trap Four. On paper, the draw did not favour Ricky Holloway’s dog, but he managed to get a clear run at the opening bend to reward backers, returning 8/1.

At 8.00 it was the turn of the seniors to take the track, when Chicago Prince took the race, coming from last to first after a slow start.

It wasn’t the best evening for favourite backers but they did find a winner in the 8.50 courtesy of Waspinajar. Heather Dimmock’s dog came home at 2/1 after taking advantage of a quick start.
