Westmead Bolt was one of the surprise winners of the night on the Trainers Championship card at Perry Barr. Running out of Trap One, Nick Savva’s runner led to the first bend and avoided any trouble to pick up the Division B of the 660 metre contest.

Second favourite Droopys Beano couldn’t do any better than third place after stepping up in trip following success at 500 metres, he was the sole wide runner in the race coming out of Trap Six.The Greyhound betting market leader Ballymac William was the big disappointment, as was unable to build on his seven length victory at Monmore last week.

Later on in the evening, Bubbly Swallow made it a double on the night for Savva over the 660 metre contests with a time of 40.31. The blue jacket runner was always handy from the break and made his move to the front of the field at the penultimate bend to pick up Division A of the race.

Mountjoy Orion made the best start from the traps but was unable to keep up with the strong pace and eventually faded to the back of the field.

The Charlie Lister-trained Lonely Boy went off the favourite and despite a slow start, did get himself into the race at the halfway point, however, he couldn’t match the pace of Bubbly Swallow in the closing stages.

The other disappointment of the fancied runners in the market was Trap Three, Freedom Cache. Dean Childs’ runner usually stays on well in the closing stages of her races but ran flat on Wednesday evening to finish fifth.
